A brand new air filter replaced by Toyota service technicians in Pleasant Hills, PA

Our hot, humid Pennsylvania summers will have you reaching for the AC control as the temperature climbs. Over time, AC components wear out due to age or can become damaged by stones or other hard objects thrown upon from the surface as you drive. Fortunately, your Toyota dealer can quickly repair any AC problem. These are a few signs you may need to visit us for AC maintenance.

Electrical Issues

Your AC is powered by electricity like the ACs in your home. In time, electrical problems can develop, decreasing AC performance or preventing it from working. These issues can be caused by blown fuses, worn wiring, damaged switches, or broken relays. A blown compressor fuse, for example, will shut down the compressor until the fuse is replaced, and your AC can’t function without a working compressor.

A failed blower motor relay can cause problems with airflow. When you select the airspeed and temperature you want, the relay maintains these settings until you change them. A failed relay locks these settings, so they can’t be adjusted until it’s replaced. Worn wiring can break, cutting power to one or more AC systems until it is replaced. Our technicians can easily fix any of these issues for you.

Wet Carpet

A wet front passenger carpet means the AC drainpipe is blocked. Refrigerant changes from gas to liquid to absorb moisture from the air before it is chilled. The liquid refrigerant is then cooled and transformed back into a gas, shedding the water in the process. The water enters the evaporator heater box located on the front passenger side behind the fireboard and drains out of your Toyota via a rubber drainpipe.

The drainpipe can become blocked by dirt or bacteria, causing the heater box to fill with water and overflow. The water then leaks through the fireboard and soaks into the passenger carpet. We’ll clean or replace the drainpipe, then clean the carpet with an antibacterial cleaner, as the water will still have traces of bacteria that need removal.

Jammed Compressor Clutch

The compressor acts as a pump, pushing refrigerant and water through the AC from one system to the next. Its action is controlled by the compressor clutch, which switches the compressor on and off at specific intervals during the cooling process. This clutch can fail due to age and will jam the compressor on or off.

A compressor that jams in the on position continues to run, causing it to overheat and eventually burn out. If the compressor is jammed off, refrigerant and air can’t move through the system, and your AC won’t work. Once we replace the broken clutch, your AC will supply cold air again.
