A 2025 Toyota Sequoia driving through a puddle in Pleasant Hills, PA

With its powerful engine, impressive towing capacity, and room for 8 passengers, the 2025 Toyota Sequoia makes its mark in the large SUV segment. Add to that its great gas mileage in its class, and you have an SUV that fits the bill in all categories.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Sequoia comes equipped with a Toyota’s iForce MAX hybrid powertrain, consisting of a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine that is combined with an electric motor. Together they produce a total of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission helps drive the entire system. Rear-wheel drive is standard and four-wheel drive is optional in most versions.

The Sequoia offers a luxurious ride around town and on the highway. With its turbocharged engine and electric motor assist, acceleration is especially quick and responsive. Braking power is confident and effortless.

Towing and Payload Capacity

The base model rear-wheel drive Sequoia SR5 has an impressive towing capacity of 9,520 pounds. That’s enough to tow the largest of camping trailers. A Tow Technology package is available to help tow and back up those large trailers. The maximum payload capacity weighs in at 1,730 pounds.

Fuel Economy

Due to its hybrid setup, the Sequoia has surprisingly good mileage numbers for the large SUV class. The EPA-estimated mileage for the rear-wheel drive Sequoia is 21 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined. The EPA-estimated mileage for the four-wheel Sequoia is 19 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined.

Interior

The three-row Sequoia seats up to eight, with second and third-row bench seats each accommodating three passengers. Opting for second-row captain’s chairs reduces the seating capacity to seven. The front seats are very comfortable and the driver’s seat has multiple position settings so you can find the right fit for you. Leather upholstery, wood trim, and heated and ventilated seating are all available in higher trims.

The cargo volume behind the third-row seats is 11.5 cubic feet. That expands to 49 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded and 86.9 cubic feet with both the second and third-row seats folded.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The base Sequoia SR5 comes standard with an 8.0-inch infotainment multimedia touchscreen with an option for a 14.0-inch screen. The 14.0-inch screen comes standard in all higher models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are standard, as is Sirius XM with a complimentary 3-month subscription. An 8-speaker audio system comes standard with an option for a 14-speaker JBL sound system with a subwoofer and amplifier.

Safety

The Sequoia comes standard with a host of driver-assist features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking.
